Prisoner 650

I am sure you people have heard something or the other about Dr Afia Siddiqui, more commonly known as ‘Prisoner 650.’ I couldnt help it, I had to write about her. I am very disturbed at knowing how she has been treated and I am feeling disgusted.

Dr Afia Siddiqui did her PhD in genetics at MIT and returned to Pakistan without knowing what was waiting for her in her beloved land. “She was arrested in Pakistan on suspicion of facilitating money transfers for terror networks of Osama Bin Laden. [...] Whilst Dr. Afia’s whereabouts remain unknown, there are reports of a woman called ‘Prisoner 650′ is being detained in Afghanistan’s Bagram prison and that she has been tortured to the point where she has lost her mind. Britain’s Lord Nazeer Ahmed, (of the House of Lords), asked questions in the House about the condition of Prisoner 650 who, according to him is physically tortured and continuously raped by the officers at prison. Lord Nazeer has also submitted that Prisoner 650 has no separate toilet facilities and has to attend to her bathing and movements in full view of the other prisoners.

Whats further disturbing is the fact that she had 3 very young kids, who are still missing. When they were abducted they ranged from one month to 4 years. God only knows whether she’s even still alive or not…but ofcourse we do not want to do anything about it. We’d rather sing “Yeh Hum Nahin” and please the West. Why do we need to even talk about this hijab clad ‘grey lady’! Its non-glamorous and doesnt fit into the ’soft image’ of Islam!

I read about Dr. Siddiqui in the papers last week, and had nothing to do except shake my head in disgust.

It’s a sad world we live in.

As for Islam and its soft image: It’s not Islam we should be worried about, but Muslims.

this is very surprising , that we are living in a “jungle” of civilisation. The nation, and of course the government of most leading & civilised(so called) are doing this much and nobody is reday to hold their hands. this is necessary for them to clear their position,

Pakistan should immediately withdraw transit facilities given to US and NATO Military Shipment to Afghanistan, as the US continues to keep Dr. Afia in their custody on basis of thier cooked story on which no one can believe. We must realize that our cruel leaders have ability to negotiate rescheduling of loans but they cant negotiate or pressurize US to release afia.
